This fascinating and quaint city is at an altitude so high that you will definitely get sick – and not just from the ayahuasca you will inevitably take. It’s definitely worth the nausea though: Cusco’s layers of history can be seen just from just a short meander through its cobblestoned streets, from evidence of its former status as the Inca capital to exquisite Spanish Colonial architecture. The markets are marvellous and bloody, the traditionally-dressed indigenous inhabitants are warm and plentiful and the nightlife is insane.
