Gold Coast: Cougal Cascades
Get There: Currumbin Creek Road, Currumbin Valley. Don’t get confused by the blue-green algae infested waters on your left opposite the waste and recycling centre – your destination is in a national park. Stay on Currumbin Creek Road until you can’t drive anymore, and you’ll have arrived at the car park.
This rainforest retreat boasts what is possibly the best swim spot on the whole Gold Coast. The greenery is lush, the mountain-fresh water is the perfect temperature for a hangover cure and there’s a rocky slide to distract the bogans from wandering too far upstream. On that note, make sure you do actually hope in the creek and wade up beyond the length of the bitumen path to find your own chill spot. It’s serene and picturesque, and you may even spot the odd eel or yabby.
