Andorra: Cemetery La Plana
Get there: Begin at the sign that says, “Cami de la Canaleta” opposite Hotel Siracusa on the main strip of Escaldes-Engordany. Follow the cobbled path up the steps, past what appears to be a small hobby farm, keep bashing straight up, cross the stream, and head on up through the foliage and cobwebs until you reach the road. Jump the barrier, cross the road (very carefully) and voila, cemetery!
Every now and then, you make the mistake of stumbling across something that makes you feel glad you got slightly lost. The cemetery and crematorium that overlooks Escaldes-Engordany in Andorra is one of those places. Stroll past the walls of ashes and the “familia” crypts, peek around the slightly unnerving steel chimney and enjoy premium views of the township of Escaldes-Engordany and the surrounding Pyrenees mountains. From the crematorium, it’s a quick €1.80 busride up to Camp el Serrat and Lake d’Engolasters, the perfect place to capture you next ‘gram.
