Crowdy Bay: Diamond Head Beach
Get There: Exit the motorway at Kew/Laurietown and get yourself onto Diamond Head Road
Cost: $8 per vehicle for a national park pass
Geographically speaking, the beach at Diamond Head is an absolute delight. A long crescent of golden sand flanked by coastal forest stretches out for a couple of kilometres to the north, and to the south, Split Rock reaches to the sky with a walkable gap through its middle. There are dozens of rockpools to explore, and the rocky pillars are the perfect place to clamber up with a beer to watch the sunset. If you feel like staying the night, there’s also a decent campsite boasting BBQs, showers, toilets and picnic tables, and you’ll be no doubt sharing your patch of grass with a handful of kangaroos. Note that because there are such good facilities, you’ll be paying for stay at a cost of $23 a night (inclusive of two people).
