Kauai: Sail the Na Pali Coast
If you go to Kauai and don’t jump on a boat to see the Na Pali coast, you’re seriously fucking up. Hiking along the coast line is beautiful (be sure to take a detour from Ke’e beach to Hanakapiai Falls), but it’s difficult to appreciate the scale of something when you’re standing on it. Bobbing along the water, however, is a completely different story. To really get an idea of the size of these coastline cliffs, you need to see them from below.
The 4000-foot tall cliffs jut out of the water, dominating the sky with amazing colour. If you’re around in summer, you can jump in and snorkel; in winter you can expect to see up countless humpback whales.
Makana Charters are a great company to sail with. Not only are they super professional and knowledgeable, but they also know how to have a laugh and what to do when someone on your boat gets seasick (and they will). The icing on the cake is they put on a seriously good lunch (including chips and brownies, like all good American meals should).
