Hong Kong: Mid-Level Escalators

Hong Kong: Mid-Level Escalators

Get There: Take the MTR line to Central. Exit… and follow the signs
Yes, we’re actually recommending you go out of your way to catch an escalator. They might have them where you’re from, but these escalators are the longest in the world, transporting you from the middle of Central through Soho and up to the Mid-Levels. Watch as the city changes around you, going from businesses to bars to residential homes at a nice leisurely pace. The 800m climb all the way to the top will take you around 20 minutes to ride (they run up until midnight) and then as you make your way back down you can explore the different areas of Hong Kong without the uphill climb. You’ll get a nice overhead view of the area which is great for spotting the little hidden gems worth visiting, and there’s a few Ex-pat bars along the trip if you’re looking some some of your own kin. The escalators feature in a lot of media surrounding Hong Kong, and it’s an institution that should not be missed.
