Going to the movies is practically a thing of the past thanks to Netflix and Chill, but in Margaret River—a town that still has an in-business video shop—it’s a weekly activity. The Arts Margaret River cinema is located next to the Rec Centre, and has recently upgraded its 35mm projector to a digital screen. But don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s all about modernity: there are only a handful of screenings a week (i.e. two), and the movies shown were usually released at least six months previous. You can have a vino in the lobby and BYO lollies, though don’t crinkle the bag too loudly or you’ll have the torch shone on you by a very cross usher. The seats aren’t the most comfortable things in the world, but there are blankets to share and heaters galore, making the overall experience really quite quaint.
