Canggu: Old Man’s
Get There: Jalan Batu Bolong Beach front, Canggu, Bali 80361
Open: Every day for breaky, but it’s from sunset that things start to get saucy.
If you live in Canggu, chances are at least half your weekly income goes towards the espresso martinis at Old Man’s. Most nights, this hip beachfront beer garden overflows with salty hair and golden tans as the finest specimens in the area come to make merry and boogie down to live music or tunes being spun on the decks. Drinks are not exactly cheap: a beer is 30 000 IDR, spirits and wine start at 60 000 IDR a pop and cocktails at 80 000 IDR, but if you can fight your way to the bar during the 5 – 6pm happy hour, you’ll get two for one of whatever you order. Food is pricey as far as Bali goes, but the fare – from laksa to Pad Thai to spaghetti bolognese – is super tasty. Special mention to the loose-as-hell beer-pong Wednesdays (where you can win a bottle of tequila if you’re good at getting your balls in the right hole), Friday nights and the iconic Sunday arvo session, where Old Man’s serves as a pre-drinking session to a wild evening at Deus. Come for one drink; stay for ten.
