Tucked up a very steep driveway (or maybe I’m just very unfit) is a snug-as-a-bug-in-a-rug hostel: In Da Lodge. Contrary to its gangster-sounding name, In Da Lodge has a relaxed garden vibe to it enhanced not only by the hammocks that line the pathway to the reception, but also the abundance of greenery viewable from the dorm windows. This is the place you want to stay if you’ve come to Ubud to soak up the artsy, cultural vibe and escape the fluorescent bogans that sun themselves along the main beach in Kuta. Alas, there is no free breakfast for you stingy hobos, but the bar and food is pretty cheap and the communal hang out area is a great place to coerce people you’ve just met into going on a rice paddy tour with you. Come here to unwind, chill out and experience the Zen side of Bali that isn’t shown on the Channel 7 Schoolies special.
Hobo Tip: The bunk beds are squeaky as fuck, so take any potential love interests out to the hammocks for some noiseless nookie rather than dominating your dorm room with lovemaking.
