If you’re over the manic Aussie orgy in Kuta, get the flippin freak out of there. The only reason I was captive in its vortex for a guilty week was the fact that I kept sleeping through check-out time (a result of Alleycats‘ infamous double-doubles). Get a scooter and head out to Canggu, about a 30-minute drive from Kuta.
Surf Stay Berawa is right near the beach and a scooter away from Jalan Batu Bolong, which is full of groovy cafes and bars. The view of green rice paddies when you wake up is something special compared to the brick wall you would be staring at in Kuta. The roof top is perfect for a night in, equipped with a pool table and TV with loads of movies. Waking up to scrambled eggs and plate full of fruit was bloody bagus – such a chilled place to rest your aching bones after a day of surfing.
