Lisbon: Park Rooftop Bar
Get There: On top of the carpark at Calçada do Combro, 58 , Bairro Alto
Cost: Free entry, fairly exy drinks
Open: 1pm – 2am
A while back, one of the coolest places to get fruity in Lisbon and watch the sun set was the roof of an old carpark. In the summer of 2013, someone enterprising came along and turned it into a bar. Enter Park: an achingly rooftop bar in Bairro Alto that swarms with people when the weather is fine. The music is okay – alternating between Daft Punk (good) and Kool & The Gang (not good), but the atmosphere and view of the city and the 25 de Abril Bridge are excellent. Cocktails here are expensive for Portugal, so we recommend investing in a €20 jug of Brut Sangria, which from experience contains at least 17 shots of bacardi and vodka. There are a bunch of chairs, wooden tables and couches set amongst potted plants, but if you actually want sit on one, arrive before 7pm. We didn’t try the burgers, but at €8 a pop, you’re not going to want to either. To get to Park, enter the carpark from the side street (or enter from the front and cross to the side entrance), take the lift up to the fifth floor and then walk upstairs to the sixth. The lift at the front is for residents only – you need a little buzzer or something to go up.
Hobo Tip: If you’re still super keen on the whole carpark thing and don’t want to fork out for booze, the fifth floor still has ace views of the city.
