This hostel is a little bit of a luxury, and really only hobo affordable if you’re travelling in a group of two or more; however, deserves a mention based purely on the adorable abuela that owns the establishment. Lucia runs the hostel in her old family home, which was built in the early 1900s, and will smother you with family history and besos and make sure you finish your entire breakfast before you go off into the world. At 70 years of age, she can still down a bottle of wine, dance to Rapa Nui music (it’s all about the hips) and will tell you her own hobo adventures from times gone by. It was also the best hostel breakfast I have had in Chile, even if Lucia did chastise us for eating all the bread.
