If you’re looking to come soak in the serenity of Tulum after the party hostels in Cancun and Playa Del Camren, Frida is a great place to stay. El Jardín de Frida is easy walking distance to most things you need in town and only a short bus ride to the beach, located just a few blocks from the ADO bus stop and the main strip of restaurants and bars.
The hostel itself has a muy tranquilo vibe, possibly elicited by the lovely outdoor garden, which hosts a bunch of hammocks for you to laze away the afternoon in. The staff are helpful and more than willing to point you in the direction of any tours in the area such as swimming with turtles, exploring the cenotes and of course visiting the ruins.
The rooms themselves are some of the more spacious I’ve seen, with an ensuite bathroom included in each and the holy grail of Central America, hot water! Included in the price is continental breakfast with toast, cereals, fruit and coffee, plus a huge kitchen for guest use.
The only downside to this hostel is the front desk is not open 24 hours, so you may find yourself sleeping out the front if you turn up after hours (11pm-8am). Also, these hours noted can vary, so be sure to send an email before arriving to ensure the office is open.
As for the vibe here, while things are pretty relaxed, it’s still very social, but you’re much more likely to meet someone to grab dinner with rather than being dragged into a racousy game of kings outside your room.
