Staying at this quaint, beautiful hostel – with its brightly coloured woolen blankets, dark wooden floors and inside terrace – makes you feel as though you’ve just stepped back in time to some sort of Mexican boarding school. It’s located in a gorgeous restored old building just two blocks from the main plaza, and apart from all the epic facilities – including steaming hot showers and genuinely powerful water jets – is a hub for interesting travellers from every corner of the globe. Despite its size, large communal lounge room and kitchen and the fact it has a bar, the atmosphere isn’t remotely lewd, and you almost feel like speaking in hushed tones as you tiptoe around. The front desk also has a brilliant set up for all kinds of thrifty tours, from horse rides to ruin excursions, and the staff will even happily help hook you up with anything cheaper you find. Easily of the best hostels I’ve stumbled upon.
