La Masia Hotel and Hostel is undoubtedly one of the most aesthetically pleasing places I’ve stayed at, and that’s not just thanks to the Colombian girls hanging by the pool. The hostel has a wicked open-plan outdoor set up, with a pool at the centre of the whole building. With the bar and restaurant serving up some amazing food and drinks (mojitos!) and setting the mood with music pumping all day, it’s easy to forget to leave to check out the amazing beaches Taganga has on offer.
The dorms themselves are pretty stock standard – not overly spacious, but all with their own ensuite bathroom, which is wicked. The beds are fairly comfortable and on the plus side, really clean, plus there’s lockers to store anything valuable. You have the choice of a dorm with either a fan being the cheapest option or an airconditioner, which is slightly more expensive. We opted for a room with a fan in true hobo style and didn’t find it was uncomfortable at all.
There had been a bunch of rumours of armed robberies in the Taganga area just prior to our arrival; however, I felt nothing but safe in the area, despite the hostel being slightly further back from the main beach area.
If you need tips on what to do in the area or booking buses to Santa Marta or Tayrona, the front desk is happy to help, but it may be a bit cheaper to head down the street and ask around.
