Bangkok: Khao San Road
Hectic, dodgy, touristy and full on, Khao San road has been a famous backpackers street since the 60s and is riddled with life. Bars and market stalls line the long street with $4 hostels and a “fuck it, get a bucket” attitude. It’s a stop-off on the way to somewhere new and exciting; a place travellers come to visit, meet greet and plan adventures. It’s also featured in the book and Leo’s classic film, The Beach. Prices are ridiculous compared to everywhere else in Bangkok, but even so – it’s hard to go past a tasty roasted cricket or coconut ice-cream covered in smashed peanuts and served in the shell.
