Cape Town: Table Mountain
Table Mountain is a 100% must-do while you’re in Cape Town. I went with two young, fit boys, so of course we climbed up it instead of taking the cable car. Admittedly we didn’t actually have a choice, as much to my dismay and the boys’ pleasure, it was closed anyway due to high winds. There are numerous ways to trek up to the peak, be we took the Platteklip Route, which is 3km from top to bottom and according to mountain’s website is suitable for “older children who are in peak physical condition” (wtf). It took us about an hour and half, and I found it pretty fucking hard as I had gained about 5km in the few weeks (okay, days) I’d been there from travelling with predominately boys and being forced to drink a slab with every meal. In retrospect though, I’d definitely recommend climbing it, as the sites along the way are pretty amazing. When you are finally at the top the view is simply spectacular, and show what a remarkable city Cape Town really is. We walked around the top for around half an hour, stopping to marvel at all the different aspects of the beautiful scenery, before heading down the same path, which is certainly a lot easier on the descent.
