Barcelona: La Boqueria
Address: Plaza de la Boqueria, La Rambla
Open: Monday – Saturday, 8am – 8:30pm
Much (okay, all) of La Rambla is a tourist tramp, but the food markets formally known as Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria are seriously not to be missed. Inside thousands of colourful stalls instead groan with fruit, vegetables, seafood and meat so exotic you won’t even know what it is, let alone will you be able to pronounce it. Give yourself at least at hour to wander around sampling weird and delightfully cheap food and drinks; but be warned: the floor is icy and littered with more banana skins than a game of Donkey Kong, so watch where you’re going or the only thing you’ll be eating is shit.
