Gold Coast: Sunday Sesh on Burleigh Hill
Get There: The end of Goodwin Terrace, Burleigh Heads – just down from Tumgun Lookout.
There’s only one place to be on the afternoon of the Sabbath when the weather is fine. From lunchtime until well into the night, people from all walks of life flock to the headland of Jellurgal National Park armed with picnic blankets, boxes of jatz and cheeky six-packs of cider to enjoy the glorious shell-pink sunset, lapping ocean and lush walk around the headland to swim in the creek. Groms skate down the hill, hot Brazilians get waves, girls jog past in matching Nikes and hippies strum guitars in front of their illegally-parked camper vans. It’s gotten so popular that you’re likely to encounter at least 7.5 weddings on your average Sunday, but fortunately the GC police either haven’t yet cottoned on to all the Rekorderlig bootleggers or – a more likely explanation – they’ve joined them. Your chances of finding a park are slim, but you’re best off not driving anyway so you can get delightfully sloshed instead.
