You don’t need to spend much time in Northern American before you realize everything is viewed with the attitude “the bigger the better.” (That’s why I got fat. I just wanted to be a better version of myself). In this case, Black Market Vintage Clothing is a clear winner. You’ll find this store located on Queens St W, one of the main shopping streets. The dark and grungy stairwell covered with old posters isn’t the most inviting entrance, but don’t be put off; you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what’s below. The vast basement area is filled with a plethora of used, vintage and consignment clothes. Like most thrift stores, it’s got that distinguished scent of musty old grandma crossed with mothballs. Seriously, haven’t they seen those Pine-O-Clean ads? Sort it out! Despite its enormous size, the store is kept in a tidy and organised manner, with clearly labelled racks of clothing, shoes and accessories. The best part – everything is $10! And in case your hair doesn’t match your latest find, there’s even an in-house barbershop!
If you’re after more common brand names such as H & M, Zara and Abercrombie and Fitch head downtown to the Toronto Eaton Centre (a massive shopping mall on the West side of Yonge between Queen and Dundas Streets).
