Montreal: Underground Network
I revisited Montreal in the winter during the middle of a blizzard. My mum and I only had a few days to explore. We trudged through the snow and wondered where all the people were. The place was like a ghost town. We just put it down to the fact that no one else was as crazy as us to be walking around in -26°C temperatures, but we were only partially right. It turns out there is a whole underground city. RESO or La Ville Souterraine is one of the largest underground complexes in the world. The “tunnels” stretch over 32km, connecting shops, apartments, businesses and metro stations. A bit more advanced than Ho Chi Minh’s tunnels, they’re air-conditioned and well, like an ordinary set of buildings, meaning you can happily spend an entire day down below. Head to your closest Metro station and grab a map of the underground city.
