I stumbled across a “Tam Tam” during my time in Montreal, BUT only months later discovered the event I had witnessed hadn’t just been a one off.  In the summertime, on the east slope of the mountain at the George-Etienne Cartier Monument, hundreds gather to play hand drums as part of a a tradition that began in the late 70s. In reality, it’s just a bunch of stoners, hippies and homeless bums having a Sunday Sesh in the park. People hit drums, hula-hoop, dance and gaze into crystals for hours on end. Bizarrely enough, there was even a DJ playing. Personally, I find it’s just fucking weird, but if you’re a hobo who’s into Mary J, get your harem pants on and get down there. You’ll make plenty of friends.
