Berlin: Flohmarkt Am Boxhagener Platz
Address: Boxhagener Platz, Friedrichshain, 10245
Nearest Station(s): U-Samariterstrasse
Open: Sunday 10am – 6pm
Bordering an emerald green park scattered with satiated snoozers and giggling children, the Boxenhager Platz Flea Market is where locals come to stock up on bric-a-brac and vintage treasures. Unlike the Mauer Park Flea Market, where you can be carried along by the teeming crowd, the markets at Boxenhager Platz can be enjoyed at your own leisurely place. Here, you will find rings fashioned from typewriter keys, battered leather suitcases, well-thumbed classic novels and even dead stoats to tastefully drape around your shoulders. Practically all sellers are private, so haggling is compulsory, and you will easily be able to wheedle the price of a leather jacket from €70 to €7. Pretending to walk away from a sale helps – 9 times out of 10, you will be called back by disgruntled sellers begrudgingly agreeing to your price. The market’s good vibrations are honed by genuinely talented buskers, which once you’ve bought as much cool kitsch as you can carry, are best enjoyed from one of the many brilliant cafes scattered around the market’s edges.
