If you only have time to visit one hipster playground whilst in Berlin, whether it be for a sunny afternoon beer or a 4am rave, then eclectic Sisyphos needs to be it. This über underground nightclub is hidden on Lichtenberg’s Hauptstrasse, and Berliners are so desperate to keep it a secret that you are strictly forbidden from taking photos inside. Spread out across a sandy outdoor area and several castle-like warehouses, Sisyphos looks remarkably like a circus crossed with a hippie commune – a likeness emphasised by the handful of chickens that scratch around outside. You can sip your drink from the bar on a pier, in a tent or even in a caravan; and once you feel like getting your groove on, simply step inside to one of the four dance floors. The walls are adorned with more disco balls than there are guests, making you feel like you are floating in the Milky Way. Occasionally, the ceiling will even rain down a light sprinkling of foam. Sisyphos’ clientele tends to be effortlessly cool and casual, and the music played is a cocktail of world, electro and minimalist house. Best of all, this dreamland boasts its own pizza stall to quell late-night munchies. For those who enjoy clubbing for 72 hours straight, it is open in summer from late Friday night all the way through to Monday, unless the party is forced to wind up early due to the ever-frequent noise complaints.
