Bohol: Tarsier Sanctuary
Get There: Jeepeny to Corella from Tagbilaran, ask to be dropped at the sanctuary
Cost: P50 (1.25 AUD)
These mammals are the most adorable residents of Bohol, native to a teeny tiny area in South East Asia and seriously endangered. Seeing them in their natural environment/in rehabilitation will make you squee. There is no touching, no flash photography and no loud noises, which is unique for the region. Whilst tarsiers are completely protected on Bohol, a black market for tourism exists, which is detrimental, as these super-sensitive creatures commit suicide in captivity and are so delicate, handling them breaks their bones. All funds raised through tourism at the Tarsier Sanctuary is channeled into rehabilitation, education and breeding programs: it is the perfect half day trip to make you feel good and see something cute.
